This book contains a lot of great quotes from great and not-so-great women throughout history. Unfortunately, Ms. Stephens sees fit to interject her half-witted commentary after every citation, apparently believing herself fit company for the women she admires. It's filler, and bad filler at that.
Also, the so-called "Index" is actually only an index of authors - useless for finding a quote by a topic or keyword.I've seen most of these quotes elsewhere in more accessible form - in fact, probably a good 75% are on my "born-today" website. Save your money and get a good book instead.This book doesn't try to be like one of the world renowned books of quotations. it's just a collection of fun, wise and interesting quotations by strong women from all walks of life. That's the virtual of this book in this age of online quotation websites and other collections of quotations. I've had my copy for years. Mines full of post-it notes and always a delight to thumb through.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jonathon Green is Britain's leading lexicographer of slang. His many credits include the Macmillan Dictionary of Contemporary Slang, Slang Down the Ages, Chasing the Sun: Dictionary-Makers and the Dictionaries They Made, The Cassell Dictionary of Slang (published to great acclaim in December 1998), and most recently, the best-selling Big Book of Filth, a survey of 6500 sex slang words and phrases. Jonathon Green lives in North London.
