Uganda lawmaker calls for all African gay people to be jailed for life

Atim Ogwal Cecilia Barbara says Africa should pass a continent-wide resolution condemning homosexuality.

A Uganda lawmaker is calling for the life imprisonment of all African gay people.

Speaking at the Pan African Parliament in Johannesburg on 9 October, Atim Ogwal Cecilia Barbara failed to convince other lawmakers to pass a continent-wide resolution that condemns, prohibits and punishes homosexuality.

Barbara said: ‘Africa must stand up. We must pass a resolution condemning homosexuality because it is not an African culture.

‘We are not allowed to practice polygamy in other countries, why should we be forced to do what is not natural?’

Canada gay 'cure' doctor arrested for sexually assaulting men

Canadian psychiatrist, Aubrey Levin is to stand on trial next Wednesday, in Calgary, Canada for sexually assaulting 10 male patients.

The prosecution represents gay patients, who were mostly prisoners that were assigned by the Canadian justice system for treatment.

Aubrey Levin, infamously known as 'Dr Shock', has subjected hundreds of gay and lesbian soldiers and conscientious objectors in apartheid era South Africa to electric shocks ‘therapy’ in an attempt to 'cure' them of their sexuality and 'devian't ideas.

The Guardian, a British daily, reported that on Tuesday (9 October), a jury ruled that 73 year-old Levin was fit to stand trial after the defence claimed he was suffering from the early stages of dementia.

In March 2010 the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta suspended Levin's license over accusations of abuse after a male patient secretly filmed the psychiatrist allegedly making sexual advances.

Savile was a 'predatory sex offender' say police

Police investigating the alleged sexual abuse of girls by the late Sir Jimmy Savile are pursuing 120 separate lines of inquiry.

The Metropolitan Police's Operation Yew Tree is looking at eight allegations against him, some as far back as 1959.

As a result, his family announced on Tuesday they will remove the former disc jockey's headstone "out of respect for public opinion".
